Practise a variety of numerical skills, including displaying numbers, working with numbers and units, averages and data spread, rearranging and solving equations, and graphs.

### Learning outcomes

• Convert and display numbers to different precisions and common scientific format
• Describe and use ratio and percentages, including % increase and decrease, in scientific contexts
• Work with a range of scientific units and convert experimental values between different units
• Calculate basic descriptive statistics of a dataset, and identify high and low experimental accuracy and precision
• Rearrange and solve different scientific formulae, and explain the relationship between variables in a formula
• Name different graph types, identify experimental outliers, plot high-quality graph and use trendline equation

### Skills

#### Concepts, Principles and Theories

• Define what is meant by accuracy and precision
• Define scientific notation and how we represent numbers in this format
• Define when it is appropriate to think in terms of decimal places and significant figures in a value

#### Manipulating and Presenting Data

• How to round a value to the requested decimal places or significant figures
• How to calculate percentage and percentage change
• How to write values as powers of 10
• How to convert between metric prefixes and apply to calculations
• How to determine the most suitable graph type for a given set of data
• Define what should be plotted on each axes of a graph and how to select suitable ranges

#### Interpreting and Analysing Data

• How to identify the slope and intercept value from the trendline equation
• How to rearrange the trendline equation to calculate the concentration of an unknown
• How to determine the central tendencies and distribution for a set of data
• How to identify outliers in a set of data
• How to rearrange and solve the C1V1 = C2V2, pH and proton concentration and ideal gas law equations
