Summary

We're looking to recruit an experienced biomedical scientist to collaborate with academics, practitioners, developers and professional bodies such as IBMS on the production of a set of resources to support professional development for biomedical scientist trainees.

This role is a great opportunity for a recent biomedical scientist graduate with a few years clinical experience or someone who has recently completed a PhD in the area. You need to have some experience of working with academics/practitioners, and would ideally also have teaching experience.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate with academic / clinical collaborators and internal project team, particularly the project lead and developers, to produce scientifically rigorous content in biomedical science
  • Provide day-to-day guidance as to the scientific requirements of content being developed
    - Author selected elements of resources based on output from collaborators, in particular instruction text, captions and text alternatives for non-text content
    - Define the scientific acceptance limits for each input field based on scientific standards and learning requirements
    - Support developers in defining appropriate validation and grading rules, and dependencies for all question steps
  • Ensure all content has thorough QA, and issues identified are addressed as required

  • Stay updated on current advances in clinical settings and best practice, and appraise new techniques
  • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes empowerment, support and challenges team members to excel
  • Maintain accurate records through project updates and be prepared to feed back regularly on progress to the rest of the team

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Degree in STEM subject

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical biomedical experience with an in-depth knowledge of laboratory practice, using technical equipment and laboratory IT systems, working in line with documented laboratory processes to ensure high quality results
  • Experience in teaching alongside academics/biomedical practitioners
  • Knowledge of the role of learning technology in undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage authoritatively in technical discussions around the specifications of projects
