Accessibility Statement

This is an accessibility statement from Learning Science Ltd, trading as LearnSci.

Measures to support accessibility

LearnSci takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our LabSims, Guides, Videos and Smart Worksheets:

  • Provide accessibility training for our staff.
  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.
  • Accessibility is built into our development processes.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

  • LearnSci Bioscience LabSims are partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
  • LearnSci Chemistry Guides and Videos are conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
  • LearnSci Chemistry LabSims are partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 Level AA.
  • LearnSci Smart Worksheets are partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 Level AA.

Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

LearnSci products are designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • All evergreen browsers within latest 2 versions on up-to-date operating systems (Windows, Ubuntu, MacOS) using VoiceOver, JAWS and NVDA

LearnSci products are not compatible with:

  • Internet Explorer and browsers older than 3 major versions.

Technical specifications

Accessibility of LearnSci products relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of LearnSci Smart Worksheets, there are some limitations.

Known limitations for LearnSci Smart Worksheets:

  1. Large data tables in Smart Worksheets: It is not possible to make these tables responsive to browser windows because the scientific integrity of the data will be lost. We make every effort to minimise these issues by separating out data where possible. Please report any examples and we will see what is possible to refactor the content.
  2. Some information from within images is required to be extracted by the user: Some graphs and image-based questions require users to extract information from images/graphs. This means that alt descriptions don't include a full explanation of the image, to make sure users can't find answers in tags or descriptions. We look to minimise these instances and deal with them on a case by case basis. Additional support may be required for the user.

Assessment approach

LearnSci assessed the accessibility of products through self-evaluation.
